“Something is not right.” Kokel said as they began to pass into the nearby valley.
“Agreed.” Another of his fellow Militia members named Estol said as he looked around the area, “The air just is not right here.”
“And the scouts said this area was safe?” Asked the Sloog as he an ounce of terror begin to creep into him.
“Well we both heard they were.” His fellow admitted as he stopped for a moment, “I don’t hear anything or feel anything. You know if they made even a single thought we would know.”
“These are metal men. They are souless.” Declared Kokel as he began looking from side to side, “Maybe they could not feel them because they are hiding. We need to use our eyes.”
To that suggestion his fellow sloog needed to think, “If we are using our eyes then it is too late.”
Kokel felt his heart sink at those final words. It was a resignation to a fate that they all knew was coming. He did not want to believe it though as he did not lose hope. He had to think for a moment as his fluids began to flow.
“If we run now they won’t catch us. We are just making it easier on them. We need to flee.” Kokel felt like he was about to explode as he spoke those words.
“You want to die faster?” His fellow asked as he looked upon his fellow, “The nameless one is out there. If you fall now, you are his.”
For that moment Kokel wanted to answer. He wanted to have the moment where he could declare that he would take his chances there was a slight red haze all around them. As it came he began to sense them, the thoughts of success and achievement all around them. These were alien thoughts though, as there was a desire for destruction in each of them.
“THEY ARE UPON US!” Declared the Governor as he raised himself above their heads in one of the few remaining disks, “Prepare to welcome our enemy! We die for the Collective!”
It was when he finished those words that the first few Sloogs began to melt.
As Kokel only realized his fate as he too became a sludge puddle among the thousands of dead Sloogs.
