“Indeed it doesn’t. I never even mentioned the Fortune Teller and the Alchemist that the Thief recruited to help the Princess to get her voice back from the evil witch!”
“Aww, now I wanna hear it even more!” Ester whined.
That just made you laugh.
“Well…why don’t you finish the story? How do you think it should end?”
Ester made a thoughtful noise before nodding to herself.
“I think that after the Thief gets the Princess her voice back, he becomes her Knight!” she concluded.
“Already? I feel like you’re skipping a few steps there.” you observed. “I mean, it couldn’t have been easy to get the Princess’ voice back. I imagine that it must have been a long and emotionally distressing experience. Just saying.”
“Not if the Thief steals it back from the Witch!” Ester posited. “Like, he challenges her to a contest and outsmarts her somehow.”
“That sounds convenient, but it fits the character, so I’ll allow it.”
“And after the Princess gets her voice back, she thanks everyone that’s helped her along her journey, including the Thief.”
“Oh yeah? Is that when she makes him her knight?”
“Not yet. He tries to leave at first, and that’s when Lady Maria and her Knights burst in to arrest him!”
“Oh, that’s good.”
“The Princess tries to fight them, but the Thief surrenders himself so that she doesn’t get hurt. This surprises Lady Maria. Her knights go to bring him in, and the Princess tries to use her voice to tell everyone that he’s innocent, but her voice isn’t strong enough. And that’s when the Moon comes down to defend the Thief!”
“The Moon? The one that the Basement Princess prays to, right?”
Ester nods enthusiastically.
“The Moon is always watching, and it tells Lady Maria of the Thief’s deeds. It helps her see how the Thief has changed his ways. But Lady Maria isn’t convinced. She wants the Thief to pay for everything he’s done. And that’s when the Thief offers to return everything he’s ever stolen.”
“Wow. The Thief’s really turned his life around.”
“Uh-huh. He gives it all away, and only then is Lady Maria satisfied. She lets him go, and he promises never to steal again.”
“And then she makes him her Knight.” you added.
“Yup. And then they get married~!”
“Uhhhhh…”
“They have their wedding under a full moon with all their other friends.”
Maybe you should have told her about the age gap between the two characters. Then again, it was never specified how old the two of them were exactly. And it was only a work of fiction where the characters were inspired by people from your life. That only made it a little weird, rather than downright criminal behavior.
