But now there’s all this nobility, and discrimination between people. Honestly I don’t know what me and Ethyl can really do for you, or if we’d just be slowing you down on your way to deal with the big slave trade thing. Especially with no weapons or magic really, we’d really only slow you down right?”
Nova smiles, exhaling a bit, her breath visible from the street lights.
“I can’t exactly let you two go now that you know my secret. Plus, this might help you out too.”
“Help me huh?”
“The person behind all this, her name is Bridget.”
You rub your hands together trying to stay warm. Passing by more fancy buildings as you’re following slightly behind Nova.
“Bridget, who’s she?”
“Bridget Ede. She’s an aristocrat but not by birth. And one with a pretty mixed reputation. Townsfolk love her. And she basically owns all the big stores around here and hosts big parties. But she has some other nasty tendencies. Tendencies I thought we had an agreement on, but it seems like my words didn’t get through to her.”
“Nasty tendencies? Like what?”
She stops dead in her tracks, then looks back to you,
“Tendencies I’d… Rather not get into. Really you’re better off going into this blind. While I go get the slaves, I want you to keep an eye on her, and see if you can extract any information on her.”
“Oh? Thats a weird thing to say. What kind of information do you want from her?”
Nova exhales softly,
“Anything, she loves to talk. But especially about herself. Pretend to be interested and she’ll probably tell you everything, but she’s too wary around me. If I tell her you’re just some travelers I met yesterday, theres a chance she’ll be vain enough to blab your ear off.”
Ethyl then adds,
“It sounds like you know her pretty well, are you two friends?”
“Thats a strong word for it. But we’ve known each other for a bit. And I don’t think she’s entirely evil, which is why I won’t take this moment to try and just kill her outright. Better she’s kept in line rather than killed.”
Ethyl then inquires,
“I don’t understand at all though, why would she even want to enslave the Cambions?”
