Before following the guy, you clear your throat. "Hey, do you happen to know my brother-in-law, Hank Schrader? He recommended the place, so I was wondering if he was a regular or something like that."
His eyes light up with a familiarity that you'd seen in old veteran eyes when they see a fellow vet. "Hank? Oh hell, I know 'im all right. I'd bet damn near everyone here knows 'im and the DEA boys. Had no idea y'all were related. Should've brought 'im along; you'd get that plus one discount on account of 'im being a member of the club," he says, chuckling.
Almost coincidentally, an unmistakable figure appears, a familiar shit-eating grin on his face. "Nuh-uh, Billy. Like hell I'm letting the birthday boy shell out. This day's on me." He raises a hand to greet you, and you return the same.
Billy laughs. "Should've told me it was your birthday, man! Happy birthday!"
"Thanks," you reply, chuckling with him. Hank points at you.
"You get your ID checked yet?" he asks. You shake your head. Billy nods at this.
"Just about t' get it done over here," he says as he leads the both of you to the table. "Hand me your driver's license real quick." You do so.
"Do I need some kind of gun license for this?" Both Billy and Hank shake their heads.
"Nah, nothing like that. We just check your ID to make sure everything's clear. You'll be good to go," assures Billy as he enters your license number into the system.
"How's Skyler and Junior doing?" Hank tries to make small talk. "And the bundle of joy on the way?"
"Yeah, they're doing alright. You know, the usual." Hank nods and smiles.
There's a slight awkward silence as the conversation trails off. Hank grins and points to a stand adorned with an impressive array of firearms, each proudly displayed on the wall with a tiny vinyl American flag adjacent to them. A sign with the word "RENTALS" is big and bold above them all.
"So, Walt, any idea what you want to start with?"
