>>5384146With no time like the present and dismally few options, on your cue, you and Jewel burst from your hiding spot before your assailants can think to react.
Not daring to look back and keeping your eyes on the halls ahead, while a gun might be the most universally-unbeatable weapon, the guards reflexes are undoubtedly and undeniably human, so it serves to reason that they’re drastically outmatched when pitted up against the two mutants charging forwards with the same speed as a car on the interstate.
A sickening sense of deja vu makes its way up your throat, crawling and writhing like the gangling limbs of a spider as you tear straight through the halls– halls that are ultimately indistinguishable from one-another. This time around, it’s far more off-putting than you’d like to admit between the limited time-span you have and no noxious gas to use as a trump card if things go truly awry, and they pretty much already have.
Your proprioception warns you of more guards up ahead– guards who are waiting to get the jump on the two of you– and even the most stubborn stragglers in the back continue their attempts at drawing a bead on either of you, not seeming to care about the fact that there’s a hostage in your grasp.
It’s plain to see that there’s no honor among thieves– or, in this case, human murderers– which means that you have no other choice than to rain spiky hellfire upon these bastards.
“Jewel, shoot!” You shout to your crystalline friend running alongside you.
“On it.” Julia nods. Not needing to be told twice, she slows down a notch to fire her crystals at the guards who continue to fire their rounds your way. Though quite a few shots make their mark, the staggering majority end up missing by a longshot, acting as little more than a few-seconds’ deterrent.
Quickly recovering from the crystalline onslaught– albeit far, far slower than either of you or Julia–the troupe of guards continue their pursuit, no less determined to see the two of you in body bags.
