>>6330377>Vone II, King of the VenksFor the people of Vencia, so far from the wild magic of the west, the Rocport is a grand and strange thing. Each of the birds is seemingly a legend all to itself, with wings and talons that seem as though they could pluck a home from the earth and carry it away. And yet, like the Venks themselves, the birds are entirely mundane.
Such mundanity is put to the test as scholars of the college approach the Thaumicite Spires. The pale pink crystal formations shine with light as the Venks draw near, a light that follows the greatest cluster of Venks near it. If there was ever a doubt that Venks draw magic to themselves it is certainly dispelled now! Over two months of study a number of concerns arise. The first, is a change in the researchers themselves. A few inches of height, a definite increase in muscle tone, horns growing more prominent. The second is that the spires stubbornly continue on with their shining despite the closeness of the Venks, only when a small piece is chipped away can its light be properly drained away, and even then it only requires a few minutes before it flares back, shining like a lamp. Considerable digging is also done at the base of the spires, revealing them to be quite deep. By the end of the study a curious contraption is devised, where with a little practice, a pair of tongs and a thaumite crystal a Venk can send pulses of mana light through a chain of the crystals, sending simple little messages down a series of crystals.
Other studies suggest that the tremendous magic could be shaped into spells, even by a Venk, with the use of material that resists or halts magic. Very interesting possibilities all around.
