>>5320545I know I said 'Daytime.' My coof-riddled brain had other plans-- pardon the wait.It really hadn’t been something you were considering with how mad you’ve been at John, but, mulling over Eddie’s words… if John’s willingness to work with FutureLabs hinges on whether or not Eddie’s alive, then the answer to this whole situation is simple!
“Ermac,” You address the other mutant, drawing his attention once more. “What if we told John you’re alive?” While you wholly intend to have Eddie back to his body sooner rather than later, perhaps the knowledge that Eddie is actually safe would be enough to have John on your side. Because even if John continued to work for FutureLabs for the foreseeable future, that could mean the difference between life and death.
“You’re being too naive about this whole thing– it’s not as easy as you think, Elise.” Eddie shoots down your idea without a moment’s thought. “If it were, I would’ve reached out to him myself.”
“Because you can’t, or because you don’t want to?” You frown at the screen, wondering if it’s a matter of ability.
“As of now, I am completely capable of reaching out to John. Most of the limitations I had upon first transferring my consciousness are no longer an issue for me.” Eddie clarifies. “I have far more freedom here than I would have ever had in my physical body. I just choose not to reach out to John for my own reasons.”
“But you could’ve stopped him before he turned himself in.” You argue to the screen before you. “Why didn’t you just do that?”
“Because telling him now would only increase the risk of Doctor Charles catching wind of my survival.” With the way the screen flickers, you think he’s growing a tad impatient. “If there were even the slightest chance that the doctor could find out, both Ernst and my physical body would be at risk, and then everything that we’ve done up until this point would be for nothing.”
You sort of knew Eddie would put Ernst before John, at least in this case. Because John can fend for himself to an extent– Ernst cannot.
