You’re beginning to have serious second thoughts, but the hour is nigh. The sound of horse and the crack of a whip reach your ears, punctuated by the click and spin of the wheels. It takes the corner and enters into your sight, a dark silhouetted carriage with black curtains drawn tight over the windows, two armoured guards in red/black livery sit up in the driver seat and another two at their posts on the back. The carriage is coming faster than one would consider safe, certainly not safe for any pedestrians that might have been walking the streets when it came about that exact moment. But the guards seem glum and grim-faced in the rain, rather than panicked or alarmed.
At the agreed moment, a shaft erupts in between the neck and shoulder of the driver. You don't hear the clack of the shot in the rain, or see the shooter, all you see is the whip flicking from the target's right hand and reins wrapped tight around his left and pulled up. The man keels back in his seat with a gurgle and carriage horses pull up short with an indignant shriek. That was a crossbow bolt, not Jess’ work. Verdicci must have another man in the rooftops, and judging by the man’s aim he’s really splashed out for this ambuscade. Quick as you like one of the sailor crew steps out from his spot in the street and grabs the reins. The carriage horses rear and snort, but unlike a warhorse of Hannibal’s pedigree they are not bred to snap and bite at anyone who grabs their reins.
The carriage steadies, coming to a complete halt with the remaining guards milling in confusion as the ambushers stream out into the street. Four guards. Well, three now. Just like Verdicci said, which shows promise for how smooth this will all go.

>They outnumber the remaining carriage guards about two-to-one. With the element of surprise it hardly seems a fair fight, nor one requiring your personal attention. You content yourself with directing Jess the Kid to take down the fourth carriage guard from a distance. [Haughty]
> Time to get stuck in, you move forward and engage the fourth carriage guard. The quicker this is done, the quicker you all get out of here. It also makes it far less likely that one of the attackers will become a casualty, making them a burden in the getaway at best or evidence at worst. [Hearty]
> You bide your time, watching the Like yourself and Mikail, Jess is part of your rentinue and hence part of the reserve. You conserve your energy and attention for any reserve force that may respond to the ambush, but part of it is you don’t really want to draw your blade for coin. [Idealist]
