>>6310246The waist deep water you were presently standing in was murky, and was the source of what you’d smelled earlier. Your first instinct is to cover your nose, but you quickly realize that you’d been completely drenched in this foul ooze. In your mind, this was the worst room yet. You hear a noise behind you and quickly turn to strike, only to find that it was Butch. The man didn’t seem the slightest bit scorched, signifying that he’d been able to pass with no damage.
“Hey, you’re alright! Thanks for going first. I realize that could have been me getting burned back there.” He sniffs the air as his surroundings settle in. “Ugh, it smells like shit in here.”
Wasting no time, you and Butch begin wading through the disgusting water you’d found yourselves in. Eventually, you find that the path you walk on splits into two, each way leading down a dark tunnel.
“Huh. Which way are we going?” Butch asks.
As you ponder your answer, you are interrupted by a loud booming voice that seems to come from somewhere above you. It was Kosmas.
“Contestant Number 35. Conrad. Eliminated by Floor Guardian.”
“Woah! That was weird!” Butch exclaims with shock. “Which one was that?”
You vaguely recall the name. Conrad was the heavily scarred man who’d wound up on Floor 5, the floor right above your own. It seemed as though Kosmas planned on announcing when other competitors were eliminated, and in what method. That was incredible intel. It meant that the Floor Guardian you needed to defeat was still active. You knew that there were at least two others between you and the fifth floor. Saoirse, and the girl from Brigid, Shea. Given that you hadn’t seen them yet, and with news of the tower’s first demise, could it be safe to assume they were stuck on Floor 5? If so, that meant that both of them had come through here, and both had made the right decision.
“For what it’s worth, my intuition says left.” Butch says.
>“Oh, and why’s that?”He shrugs. “My Crest always itches when there’s danger nearby. And right now it’s itching when I look down that right way.”
>“Itches? I thought it prevented you from having food poisoning.”“It does a lot of things.”
The hell was this guy talking about. You’d never heard of Crests having such strange effects before. Hell, you had TWO of them, and neither did anything special other than allowing you to kill fools more efficiently.
