Fleet Master Copernicon:
>As their forces are currently dispersing, pursuing a direct assault on the Core World would give us a a very high chance to punch through their defences and surprise them. However we would have limited time there, before they would regroup and strike back, most likely between 1 and 3 months. If we don't take one of the Core Worlds by then, we could be caught between a hammer and an anvil. On the other hand, as Space Marines, this is the kind of warfare we excel at, hitting hard and fast and our Chapter in particular is good a Deep Strike missions, so we could potentially take out one of the three nerve centres of the Triarchy in one strike. This way, we don't need to split out forces as well. Admiral Amos Hefin:
>A strike at the Core Worlds might sound enticing, but it will put us in the middle of our enemies, without a clear line of supply. It will be a do-or-die proposition. True, we could win the greatest victory this Sector has seen in the last thousand years, or we could lose. I suggest that step-by-step approach, while possibly more protracted and bloodier, is more assured. As raiding force always has the initiative, we won't be able to prevent all losses, but allocating 4 light cruisers and 12 Escort Squadrons would keep Styrian Triarchy effectively unable to strike any of our critical lines of communication. Adding additional 2 light cruisers and 4 Squadrons would also prevent them from launching raids into Sector Deus. I know that if we allocate all of these ships to rear duty, it greatly diminishes our main fleet, however I believe it will still be enough for the main fighting, bombardment and planetary assault duties, although without sufficient escorts, our capital ships will be much more vulnerable than standard operating doctrine would suggest. Alternatively we can accept a certain attrition rate on our reinforcements, ammunition and other supplies and just play the numbers game, expecting that Imperial resources will outlast Styrian raider's zeal. If we would want to concentrate on hunting their fleet, this would require all of our current forces, apart from the Chapter Fleet and main Crusade force would need to stop advancing for the time being.>>5574728Understood.
