Contact reports came in only moments after the sound of guns- it had begun. While the damage inflicted at the start was heartening- there were many more to follow, and this barrage had only been the first strike. The enemy had yet to fire- either of them.
In the east, as tank destroyers tore into the camouflage-painted western armor, flat-faced trucks laden with steel plates sped through the mist over open ground, darting from trees to more trees, and into waiting infantry. Eberhardt’s T/24 vehicles dumped machine gun fire into them- the sparks and dents appearing in them a sign of their durability against typical small arms, but bundled charges and flamethrowers still found targets- though as the armored doors opened, the infantry piling out after the initial fusillade were quickly noticed to not be like others- the bulk of their forms indicating body armor.
