>>5379640“You guys–” You swallow, and, while you knew you’d be doing this at some point, you honestly didn’t want to throw this on the rest of your team right freaking now. “Go grab Blaze and FastBall.” Your tone leaves no room for argument.
“Kelpie, you–you can’t be serious.” Bernard all-but sputters, and, for all of his dislike of Valjean, his objection to your words is clear.
“What are you complaining about? You’re not the one who’s going to have to get up-close and personal with them.” Valjean responds, exasperated.
“I’m the one who’s gonna have to pull you outta there if somethin’ goes wrong.” The teleporter points out.
It’s a risk for everyone involved, but, too far deep into the mission, you guys can’t afford to stop where you’re at. Now, with no choice but to go deeper into FutureLabs’ depths, your team will need the extra manpower.
Everyone– not just you– is very much aware of this– had been aware of this from the very beginning.
“Blink and I are going in. Boleski, stay back and watch out for those freaks…” Valjean orders the older man, and you don’t have to see them to know they’re at the bottom floor right now.
“Hey– “ Harpy’s voice cuts in. “Pay attention when you’re about to die~~” Her words are punctuated by yet another stab of her rapier, one that comes dangerously close to your face.
Again, you’re swift to avoid the attack by jumping up and kicking backwards from the wall, but, instead of using the wall to bounce over and away from the woman, you use that as an opportunity to fire yourself back at her like a human air-missile, twisting yourself around in mid-air to deliver a devastating kick.
That kick had been aimed at the suit in general, but, overestimating the suit’s capabilities, harpy had raised her rapier to defend. No sooner than your foot makes contact with her blade does it shatter into a million tiny pieces as if it were no stronger than glass, its fragments thrown and scattered into the air.
What was once a long, gleaming rapier is now an underwhelming stump. If looks could kill, you’d be long-dead under the force of harpy’s withering glare– a glare that is quickly replaced by a calm facade and a venomous smile.
