“By the name of Ulric, put that man down!” Bellowed the decorated man as he walked onto the scene. Lucian felt confusion upon his brow and did not move, causing the man to yell his commands again, “I said put that man down, knight!”
Lucian was starting to get a sense of what was happening, so he slowly placed the gummy man on the hardwood floor so that he could fully face the man, “This man was getting in the way of my investigation. As he was imposing, he perhaps know something I need to know.”
The man looked at Lucian with something close to contempt, “Bretonnian, this is a Marien Vessel! Our city-state had escaped the tyrant grip of the Empire long before you were a fledgling. You do not have any authority here to commit acts of violence on my ship!”
“I am a Priest of Morr.” Lucian said as he released the grubby man to face the man completely, “Surely this vessel recognizes the Death God’s authority in matters like these.”
The man focused on Lucian and then glanced towards Tee-Nee-Tyny. The Skink was giving an eye at the man, his magic stopping as this situation started. His words were reaching Lucian and were making some sense. He had remembered Adok talking about these things but he did not expect someone to call an authority against him.
“I am Captain of this vessel, Morrite.” He spoke with a force of will that rivaled Errant Knights, “It doesn't matter who you are, even Ulric or your Lady, my word upon this vessel is equal to one of your damned Royarch and you will respect it as much!”
Glancing at the peasant Lucian could see the wide scheming smile on his face. This was exactly what he was hoping for. Even if Lucian was not bound by oaths to keep harm from coming to the innocent, these sailors were needed to keep the vessel afloat and moving. If he killed too many of them it would be impossible to make it to Albion.
As for the temperment of the people, glancing at the sailors, Lucian could see a hatred that was growing amongst the Imperials. The Bretonnians seemed almost flabbergasted by the actions of the Captain. Perhaps, Lucian guessed, they were expecting him to lash out and teach him who was really his better.
