All the strength that he had for his whole life seemed to ebb away in that moment. It was a strength that had been building for quite some time under his service to numerous masters and the gods themselves. Damned be these mortal men should not be able to bring a Titan of divine wroth down!
Yet, Lucian’s knees waivered.
The men, seeing that there was success amongst their kind, threw themselves at Lucian with all their might. Each of them grabbing another piece of his armor and holding it tightly as Lucian tried to thrash against them. So many of them became present that he was lifted off the ground, the over half dozen sailors able to commit the action with enough of their number.
It was then that one of them came with rope.
Quickly they tied knots of all kinds around the knight’s arms and legs. Each of them a binding that Lucian knew he should have been able to break away from. His confusion was so great that he did not even know where his companion had gone. Only that the sailors were bringing him up from the bowels of the ship like some pork ready to be roasted.
One of them shouted something and quickly they all moved. He did not know who was the person who made the call but the peasants had settled him upright and were now slamming him onto one of the masts that held the mighty sails above their heads.
One, twice, three, and a several dozen more times the rope went around and around the person of Lucian. There was not dignaty in this or even the potential for matyrdom, for the Knight realized that their actions were no longer with malice but the work of organized men.
Looking across the deck the Captain of the vessel looked at Lucian with calm eyes. He was approving of his men’s work, taking care to contain what might be the most dangerous person on the vessel.
“We have a King!” Joked one of the sailors as he backed away from their handiwork.
The Knight knew things were not finished as someone from the lower decks emerged, a box in his hand of food that smelled rancent. Peasant food Lucian remarked, but when they started throwing them at him he realized it was not for their eating.
They were going to defame him with fruit and vegetables.
As the first fruit slammed into his face, Lucian wondered what just happened. Why was everything so much heavier?
