“Why even offer the illusion of choice?! Oh, I’m really in for it now!” the boy cursed as he grabbed the card and prepared for the worst.
He felt a crushing feeling, as though gravity had increased. No, that wasn’t quite it. He could tell it was more like he was being pulled upward, like when an elevator starts rising. Well, taking relativity into account they’re basically the same sensation, but the point is he could tell he was being actively pulled somewhere. The crushing feeling intensified until he lost consciousness.
When he came to, Ogawara felt himself lying on his back in a rather comfortable position. Opening his eyes, he found that he was lying in a bed in some kind of hotel room. Wait a minute…
“N-n-n-no way… I thought getting dropped into lava would be bad, but somehow it’s even worse! It’s just like in those doujins I’ve read, this is a LOVE HOTEL! I’ve gotta get out of here, fast!” He thought in frenzied terror, jumping from the bed and rushing to the room’s exit.
“Master, where are you running off to?” Hearing a feminine voice behind him, Ogawara froze in shock. Trembling, he slowly turned around to see a white-haired girl with oriental dragon-horns on her head sitting up in the same bed he’d jumped out from.
His brain short-circuiting, the shut-in boy stammered, “W-where, who, a-a-are you a c-cosplayer?”
Standing up from the bed, and walking towards him, the girl answered with a kind smile, “I am your Servant, Kiyohime. Even though I look like this, I’m a Berserker, you know.”
“O-oh, right. I g-got signed up f-for that Holy Grail War thing. Ehehehe…” Unable to think straight in close contact with a girl who would be considered rather cute by most standards, particularly because he just learned he’d been in the same bed with her in a love hotel, the reclusive boy unconsciously decided the best response would be to flee. Turning back toward the door, he hurled it open to sprint out only to inexplicably find the horned girl blocking his path on the other side. Though she was still smiling, the undertones in her voice had become unmistakably menacing.
“Anchin-sama, are you trying to run away from me?”
“I, uh, well y-you see, I j-just needed some-!”
“Anchin-sama. Are you trying to lie to me?”
Falling into a dogeza pose, Ogawara pleaded, “I’m sorry! I was scared! I never wanted to sign up for a war, please forgive me!”
“Master, I will serve you faithfully, so long as you don’t lie to me or run away from me.” Her body slowly becoming wreathed in blue flames, the Berserker continued, “But if you do lie or run, I don’t think I’ll be able to stop myself from burning you to death under a bell. Jaaang. Jaaang.”
What an oddly specific threat. In spite of all his fear, the boy started putting the pieces together.
“Y-you are the REAL K-K-Kiyohime? F-f-from the legend?” Ogawara stammered.
