>>5576244>weird Lava Children OSR monster manualIncredibly obscure reference, but maybe you have heard of Patrick Stuart who did Veins Of The Earth (it is an LotFP / OSR weird fantasy Underdark dungeons lore book supplement). Hehe, the title is so poetic but I know that the phrase is a quote borrowed from The Tempest.
He also wrote an amazingly atmospheric monster bestiary, called Fire On The Velvet Horizon it is made like some William Burroughs cut-up text scrawl magazine lol it is actually unreadable but I have some text-only pdf of it.
But there is one monster in it I remember, it is described like burnt children crawling out of a fire, cursed sacrifices screaming for vengeance against all who breathe air unstained by fire and pain. If nothing else you can augment your vocabulary with some peculiar archaisms reading his work (cinereous!), though I think his earlier stuff was better, his newer stuff is a bit more addled. Now reading your old school monster manual excerpt makes me wonder if there are other monsters in his bestiary that are reworking of these weird classic ones hehe.
ARIEL: I prithee,
Remember I have done thee worthy service;
Told thee no lies, made thee no mistakings, served
Without or grudge or grumblings: thou didst promise
To bate me a full year.
PROSPERO: Dost thou forget
From what a torment I did free thee?
ARIEL: No.
PROSPERO: Thou dost, and think'st it much to tread the ooze
Of the salt deep,
To run upon the sharp wind of the north,
To do me business in the veins o' the earth
When it is baked with frost.
