>>5308621>You turn to Milly. “Forgive me if I’m prying but…the three of you don’t exactly strike me as typical circus performers.”“Have you ever been to a circus?” Corrine asks you.
>“Well, no. But I’ve read about them in books. I thought they were full of acrobats…and men with painted faces and rosy cheeks. Huge animals that perform amazing feats! I didn’t think they were so…heavily armed.” You say, staring at Milly’s knives, as well as the large axe on Theo’s back.“A fantastic perception, Blair!” Milly exclaims. “Truthfully, this is a relatively new profession for us. Myself and my fellow actors here were once mercenaries…of a sort. Our travels with the various companies we served in took us all across Fodlan. The work was really good for a time. Plenty of adventure. Particularly during the Dagda and Brigid War.”
“That was a good one.” Theo calls out. “Never seen so much gold in my life.”
“But, alas, all good things must come to an end.” Milly sighs. “Fodlan became a lot more peaceful after that. It became harder and harder to find work. We ended up taking a bad job we shouldn’t have, and as a result most of our company got wiped out.”
“Damn Jeralt Mercenaries.” Theo calls out again. “Right bastards those guys.”
“So, we decided we’d embark on a safer career path. Hence, we became the Killer Trio!” Milly says. “We may not be the typical fancy clowns you’d see at any other circus, but all that other stuff I said about us is true. Folks love paying top gold to see Caleb shoot an apple off a man’s head 120 paces away. Ain’t that right, Caleb?”
“That’s right.” Caleb confirms. “Though if what our new friends are saying is true, I imagine folks are going to have some shifting priorities in the near future.”
Milly frowns. “Yes. We may be in for quite the economic downturn.” She turns back to you. “Well, that’s our life story. What about you and your sister? If you were going to that big shot school then you must be nobles, right?”
Corrine interjects. “Not exactly. We were both born in Carcino Village, near Leicester. We were orphans, but a kindly old merchant had taken us in. Before he died, he used what remained of his fortune to send us off to Garreg Mach, so that we could make a better life for ourselves.” She sniffs, rubbing her eyes. “Oh, how I wish he were still with us. He’d know what to do…”
“Oh, how awful…” says Milly.
“Wish I knew a kindly old merchant…” Theo mutters.
