You take a deep breath before responding to Question, you feel a cold smear of grease where he pressed his thumb to your head and you wipe it away in annoyance.
You close your eyes and pinch the bridge of your nose. You know better than to argue with someone so deeply entrenched in conspiracy, whether you approve or not you know he's going to follow his gut.
"If you're paranoid about Hawtorne then look into him yourself. But don't risk it, he's not like me and will put a 12 gauge in your chest instead of talking with you," You give him a warning you hope isn't on deaf ears, if he had them, you don't doubt Hawthorne would prove more than a match for Question.
"Tell Huntress that she can keep scouting Banks, know where and when does he moves, and once you end this suspicion you have with Hawthorne you can finally focus more on Banks. You don't do a thing without my permission, do you understand?" You say the last words with all the authority you can muster. Question nods slowly as he reaches in his pocket and pulls out a silk handkerchief he hands it to you.
"I wouldn't bring it up if I didn't think it could be possible, Officer. I'll let Huntress know to keep an eye on Banks." He pulls his hat off the dumpster and pulls it down on his head with a tug on the front brim as his farewell.
You turn on your heels and get back to your car, dropping into the driver seat you wipe the grease more precisely using the mirror. You pull down the handkerchief and look down to see a Red and Yellow embroidered "J.L." on the bottom corner, what a headache. You toss it into your glove box and head back to the precinct, if you showed up later than Hawthorne that would be suspicious.
Arriving back at GCPD you're barely into your uniform when Hawthorne comes through the door, wiping his face with a paper towel.
"Chief just got done chewing me out and spraying me down in the process. You just getting into uniform now, what was the hold up?" He asks slightly uninterested as he tosses his clothes in the locker and texts on his phone.
"Just stopped for some pizza." You say, closing the locker door.
