<span class="mu-s">Alongside your elemental skills pertaining to an affinity, you have access to the Life Arts and the Death Knells. Life Arts provide various supportive effects and restorative boons to help you climb through the perilous aperture of every battle. Death Knells are the counter-force to Life Arts, being able to cut off one's strength and ensure the end for your foes. But beware, Death Knells can just as easily be turned against you. There are Death skills that both have root in Materia movesets and Spiritua magicks.</span>
<span class="mu-s">Status effects will plague you during battles, but you may also plague others with them as well. For some, status effects can be the turning point in a fight. There are skills that both cause inflictions and cure them. There is a chance behind every infliction of a status. The primary status effects are:
- BIND: The arts that forbid use of Materia physicals.
- SEAL: The arts that prohibit casting of Spiritua magicals.
- DEATH KNELL: The arts that forbid Life Arts.
- SLEEP: The drowsiness that stops movement.
- STUN: The paralysis that constricts actions.
- TOXICITY: The torpor that saps your health.
- BLOOD: The absorption of your lifeforce through bleeding.
- CANCER: The degradation of health that jumbles your focus.
- DESPAIR: The confusion in the throes of terror that tears parties apart.
- EXISTENTIAL: That which you must prevent, less you be erased whole.</span>
<span class="mu-s">Moves that are physical have greater aptitude for critical strikes, but can be blocked easier. Moves that are magical react most strongly to resistances and potential.</span>
