You drive for a couple more minutes, passing the Dragon's Den as you go. It looks busy tonight. Only then do you continue talking.
"You work a lot of jobs so you can go on that journey you mentioned, right?"
"Yeah. With a car, more specifically. I want to be able to travel on my own. And... I want to have enough to go see the world, go on a trainer journey on my own." He says, his voice turning just a little more impassioned as he says this. You take it as a good sign.
"Mhm, leaving Lobraise. You grew up here, right? Unlike Macy."
"I did. Not really the most interesting place, plus..." He trails off.
"Plus?"
"Nevermind. Hey, Macy is real nice when we work together. She's a lot more used to Scyther than me, even though I'm around him for so much longer..."
"You'll get there. Come on, we both know you're a way bigger help in the kitchen. I'll need to put you outside more often too, though."
The two of you continue talking from there. It drifts back to work, naturally, since it's what got you two acquainted in the first place. You answer a few enthusiastic questions about Grillburg, where you learnt the trade, and some stories about hunting and fishing. Before he can tell you any anecdotes of his own, though, the two of you pull into a driveway.
It's a small two-storey house. Lobraise is a tiny place, so there are few cramped buildings or squashed-together structures. The exceptions are buildings like your own restaurant. The Tall Tale is meant to be a restaurant AND a living space, so is smaller by necessity. His house looks like it's fit for a family, but is big enough that their absence would be very clearly felt. He jiggles the locked door, and you reach over him to unlock it.
"You ever driven a car? Dad's or something?"
He shakes his head.
"No, I'm kinda unsure how to start, though... I need to do that before getting my own one."
"Any you have your eye on yet?"
"There's this nice blue one at the local dealership. A Houndour Civic."
"Well, keep working hard, alright? You'll be able to afford it soon. Goodnight, Liam."
He smiles as he exits the vehicle, looking a lot less nervous than before he got in. It's nice talking to him as a person and not just an employee.
"Yeah. I hope so. G'night, boss, thanks for the lift. I'll make good use of the rest of the night."
With that, he heads back inside.
