The Galmans, blue-skinned humans native to the planet Galman at the edge of the Milky Way, lived on a rather arid world buffeted by punishing, yet just under the unsurvivable threshold by "baseline" humanity, and as an evolutionary response, cyano-melanins and, through the inherent adaptability the Akerians implanted in all natural humans, some amounts of chlorophyll developed through interbreeding with a now endangered species of non-humanoid polymorphic, ambulatory pseudoplants, as instructed by ancient voices in the genetic memories of the leading clans, to seek out those beings, and bridge the gap. The Galmans made contact with many of these beings, and through gradual psychological engineering and psychotropic substances, caused them to shift their morphology to be able to reproduce with them. This process is less than pleasant, and is often regarded as the darkest chapter of Galman history[1], yet it is the only way to save the slowly degrading Galman genome, as hybridizing provided the ability to radio and photosynthesize, rendering the radiation harmless, and even vital to the bodily functions of the Galman people. Such specific conditions and their resourcefulness made them seen as the perfect pawns for Iscandar, who made plans to abduct the most pliable of them.
[1] Event known as the "Rape of the Albegruns", the hijacking of that species' reproductive systems drove them into an endangered state and fostered a worrying trend of mutual codependence.
