>>5788703>>5788764You decide to spend most of your evenings after firearms training with Hawthorne, you suggest going to a local diner after training for two days. On the third he suggests a beer instead.
"Need something to take the edge off. This training is a joke." He says annoyed. You notice he always seems to be a bit grouchy at the end of your training sessions but he never brings it up. As you both sit down once again at "Blue Brass", the nearest cop friendly bar, you watch as he sips from a the tall neck of a beer. Your conversations through the week generally ranged from work discussion, a few quizzes on protocol and the like, as the days go on you get slightly more personal. You tell him how you and Nia met, keeping her name secret of course as well as any damning details, he chuckles and shakes his head as you tell the story.
"Being ignorant is a virtue of the young, Rookie. Burden for the old." He sips as you tilt your head at him.
"What do you mean, sir?"
"The young are virtuous in their fresh ignorance, while the old are steeped in a lifetime of foolishness. You know who said that, Rook?"
You rack your brain but fail to come up with the answer.
"No, sir."
"Me neither." He chuckles. "My wife told me the quote from some book or another she was reading." He offers you the neck and you clink it.
The next days you have casual conversation about your private lives but nothing too serious until you get to Friday. Last week of your free reign of training before you start the briefings and prep for the event. Hawthorne is in a pricklier mood than usual, before you left you watched him stare at the burnt and dented metal targets of knives and guns. He mumbled a few words and curses, you are pretty sure you pick out "Damn suit" out of his mumblings as he packed his gun up.
Sitting at the bar now he stares out the window, letting his beer sweat on the table.
>"Sir, I was wondering what has you so upset about the training you've been doing this week?">"I'm sorry if this is out of bounds, sir. Would you tell me about your wife? You seem really fond of her and I could use relationship advice.">"Sir, can I ask why you took me on as your rookie? Why leave the desk job and the safety to train some random rookie?">"What are you expecting for the event? What do you think the threat level is gonna be like?">Write-In(Feel free to pick more than one option for this one, order is important as some options may clam Hawthorne up. Last update for today, so take your time to think up any write-in burning questions. I need to shake off this Jet Lag so I will see you tonight.)
