They did not have to wait much longer after their conversation as a small cling could be heard from the door below them. The Magos pressed another pair of buttons before the chamber door released a burst of gas into the air as the compound began to equalize itself with the rest of the planet around them.
“Energy fluctuations detected.” Announced L3KT as he already had an Omnispex in hand scanning the building below them.
+Oh Machine God, thank you for this boon today.+ The Magos Dominus said as he kneeled before the slowly opening chamber.
Slowly but surely the chamber door slowly opened up. The darkness that would have been the chamber was slowly becoming lit as Lorch raised his Volkite towards the entrance. It was to their luck that nothing came out to attack them. Nothing there that had the unparalleled desire to kill humanity in particular. That was good as none could deny that these fortresses might have such a desire.
“We have been granted access to the domain of the past.” Announced the Tech Priest as he slowly lifted his hulking form from the ground into a more upright position, “Sons of TalOS, take point but do not rush. We are here to study and examine. We will take this cache of knowledge one step at a time.”
“Understood.” The Captain announced over the vox before barking, “L3KT you are to take point with the Omnispex. Rest fall in at his flanks.”
Within seconds they were organized and prepared with the Acillian being the first to walk down into the bunker. One after another the Astartes followed him through with Lorch being the middle of the bunch. They were quickly followed by the Magos Dominus and his cohort of Skitarii taking the rear-guard.
Just taking a moment to look around Lorch could feel his soul lurch. The paneling around him along with the staircase they were traveling gave him flashbacks to the fallen ruins of mankind. It was odd as they were both pleasing to the eyes but causing him a moment’s irritation.
This was something that humanity built, but when humans lost the keys to such places they became deathtraps. What he was feeling was the fear bred into him by every human that had gone into places like these and survived.
But he was Astartes. He Shall Know No Fear.
