'Wolfman, if you stop bothering the humans, I will go out at sea and talk to Shennu. I'll get her to come back to the surface. But you have to stop bothering them first, okay?'
[WOLFMAN] "Yeah, right!"
Sigh...
[WOLFMAN] "Humans acting up in the first place is why Shennu left! She told me I shouldn't bother, but I told her I'd show it's worth it to punish humans like this!"
She? So Shennu is a Dragoness then. It seems Wolfman's refusal to hear her out this time however is also part of the reason why Shennu has become the way she is... His childish mind can't see that.
[WOLFMAN] "Besides... I like being strong like this! I like being able to surpass humans at last! It means I don't have to rely on them anymore!"
'Anymore?'
[WOLFMAN] "Don't you know about wolves and our great story?"
I shook my head at him. Any more reasoning he could give me for his motives was helpful. Really, Redeeming some people would be like giving them therapy, wouldn't it?
[WOLFMAN] "Where do you think dogs came from? They didn't just pop up on their own! They came from us! Wolves! Long ago, us wolves were the proudest creatures in Hainei! We didn't need anyone but ourselves! We were feral! We had pride and stuff! We only needed the pack! The pack and the alpha male was all we needed. We could get all the food we wanted by hunting together! We had bonds! One for all and all for one!"
Wolfman smirked at me. A smirk of utter certainty.
[WOLFMAN] "But then some wolves grew weak... and the moment we started abandoning the pack, we buddied up to humans! We got around their fires, and shared meat with them, and now look at us. Dogs happened. That's bad! Can't you see that us Wolves basically messed ourselves up? We had to be subservient to them... and they got to be our "masters"! It was basically slavery!"
[WOLFMAN] "Humans and the respect they show animals is... IS FAKE! They look down on us... they do!"
He tried his best to look assured of what he said. But I noticed something about his shifting expression as he took on a grimace. A tear. One little tiny tear at the corner of his eye. He looked... melancholic about something beyond his bitterness. He disguised his wiping off of the tear and discarding it as scratching his eyelid. He didn't want to tear up, because then it'd make him think he was weak still.
[WOLFMAN] "Because humans and animals like that used to be so close together, that's why I was weak and small... as Wolfboy. I relied on the humans too... Well, I don't wanna anymore! They've already showed both Nature and us animals their true colors! Now I'm going feral again, and becoming WolfMAN was the best thing that ever happened to me! Now I am a pack myself! I don't need anyone! I'm strong enough to finally take whatever I want for myself!"
[WOLFMAN] "Humans and animals don't need each other anymore! We can do just fine without the humans! I'll show you! I'LL SHOW THE WHOLE WORLD! Friendship... love..."
