>>5310109The Imperial Army’s doctrines have always placed a heavy emphasis on infantry. Relying on both regularly enlisted soldiers as well as conscripts from across the Empire’s numerous provinces, they boast the largest army on Fodlan. Their infantry is bolstered by special forces units, particularly divisions of mages, who serve as the Empire’s trump card in battle. The armored and infantry divisions of the Imperial Army are the first punch, while the mages vaporize whatever is left. At least, that’s how the Empire traditionally always conducted war. The addition of Demonic Beasts to their ranks has complicated matters somewhat. From what you could see back at Garreg Mach, they have no qualms or reservations about deploying numerous amounts of monsters onto the battlefield, despite not being able to fully control them. Demonic Beasts, while always something the people of Fodlan have feared and avoided, have historically been few in number. Very few people have any practical experience fighting against them, and beyond just the physical damage these beasts are capable of inflicting, the damage they can inflict to an enemy’s morale cannot be understated. Knowing the secret source of where these beasts come from, it’s hard to say whether the Empire is truly limited in how many they can create.
>“We’ll want to have ourselves some archers to counter any Imperial mages and pepper the enemy from a distance they cannot reach us. Additionally, a few mages of our own won’t hurt to put a hole through their more heavily armored troops. I myself am a mage and should be able to assist with that last part.” You tell Bertram. “While we’re gone, I suggest you give the order for those staying behind in Charon to begin constructing and preparing ballistae. We’ll need them to stand a chance against the Imperial Army’s Demonic Beasts.”“Did you say Demonic Beasts?” Bertram asks, narrowing his eyes. You take the liberty of filling in the man on the Empire’s newest pets. By the time you’re done, Corrine returns, with the Killer Trio in tow.
“Hey hey.” Caleb calls cheerfully. “I hear you’re our new boss. Good on you, being able to order around your older sister like that.”
Milly sighs. “I was beginning to enjoy the circus life, you know? It felt nice putting a smile on all those faces. But a girl’s got to eat. And I’ve certainly served worse commanders than Garreg Mach students.”
“This is more my style anyway.” Theo calls out, giving you a thumbs up. “So, who we are killing boss?”
>“How much are we paying them, anyway?” You ask Corrine, pulling her to the side.Corrine shrugs. “Enough. Don’t worry about it. Your big sister has it all under control.”
