The opening scenes of the film begin to roll. A few minutes in, Lorene feels her eyelids begin to droop, and she resolves to at least take a few sips of her cocoa before passing out.
…
Lorene awakens to the sound of pencil scratching on paper.
The living room is dark. At some point, someone threw a blanket over her, and took away most of pillow mountain so she could comfortably lay down on the couch.
She slowly sits up, rubbing at her eyes, before yawning, stretching her arms out above her. What time was it?
The pencil stops for a moment, before slowly resuming its scratching.
Lorene glances back at the source of the noise. Far away, sitting at the kitchen table with only a small table-lamp for light, is Ruth, scribbling something into a journal. Lorene blinks a few times, slowly processing the situation, before standing up. She gently sets the blanket back down on the couch, before making her way over to the kitchen.
“Ruth…? What’re you still doing up?”
“eep!” Despite Lorene whispering, Ruth still jumps a little at the sudden interruption. She looks up, and sees her friend. “s-sorry, lorene, i didn’t mean to wake you up…”
"No, it's alright, you didn't wake me up or anything." Lorene sleepily scratches at the back of her head, before moving a little closer. “Are you writing something?”
“y-yeah…” Ruth looks down at her small notebook. “i’ve been trying to write down what happened every day, before i go to sleep… it helps me think about what i should improve on, or try to do better in the future…”
“Huh.” Lorene quietly pulls a chair out, and sits. “That’s cool.”
“yeah…” Ruth stares down at her lap. “i-i’m sorry, lorene…”
Lorene tilts her head. “What for?”
Ruth seems to shrink back into herself. “i shouldn’t have brought up the idea of watching a movie… it was pretty selfish of me to do. i didn’t think about it enough… you were really tired, and needed to sleep…”
Lorene blinks.
>How do you respond?
