“No, it’s something else.” You’ll ease her worries.
“Oh yes? Could you specify?” This has happened to her before, and knows people are more than willing to lie about this.
“Something is missing?” Cookie wonders if you can deflect it to something less important if you choose to.
“N-No, absolutely not. Nothing has been reported missing yet. The workers have the right to responsibly borrow the equipment for legitimate reasons under strict timeframes.” She’s trying to save her skin as well. “Like to borrow a vehicle to safely drive home. A vehicle we use to transport our goods daily. Like a truck.”
“Stuff is missing, got it.” Cookie is shocked about how dreadful this woman is at being subtle.
“Please, none of this type of alarming talk from now on. It’d be disastrous if something like that were true. But if it somehow was, well, it’d be great to know if the equipment is still in good condition, and who did it.” She wants you two to take a hint and help her out. “Care to share now what you exactly borrowed and from whom?
“It’s the keys for an apartment room.” That’s the only thing that came to mind that made any amount of sense.
“A room? What for?” She’s not buying it, she has heard a similar tune before.
“To, uh, well…” You scratch the back of your head and speak slowly to come up with something. “To study.” Yeah, you’re a genius.
“I seem to understand…” The worker takes a look at Cookie then back at you. Her gloomy eyes turn down. “You two are dating…?”
“Ah, uh, uhm, huh? U-Us? D-Dating?” Cookie’s mind is going to wild places. Should you clarify that you’re not dating? That’d make the conversation go for longer, right?
“You’re not out of shame, huh. It had to be pretty wild with how you’re looking.” The lady starts smoking once again.
“HUH?!” Cookie can’t handle this. You’ll have to speak up.
“I’m not surprised, stunning men are *always* with company.” Now the gal looks as dejected as before the conversation started.
“I-I think there’s a misunderstanding. We’re just good friends, that’s all.” You dispel the confusion.
“Friends? Give me a break. If that’s how he treats you in public, you should break up with him now.” The lady turns to Cookie. “You have worth.”
