It isn't just the training, but Karn and Trunks are now on an even playing field motivation wise. Before, losing for Trunks would be akin to a stubbed toe. But here now, the safety net is basically GONE, and Karn's already wiped out a good chunk of the guests, including Hyoka, his partner who couldn't marry him before she died. He's pretty much a widower at this point. Flip the perspectives, and Karn would be flipping the FUCK OUT in Trunks's shoes.
This is getting exciting. It's no longer slapping the shit out of a stupid dog, or a game of Whack-a-Timeglowie, but a 1-on-1, gloves off, grudge match to the death between men. And knowing this quest's track record when it comes to those encounters, we're in for some kino. Wouldn't have a final encounter with our most persistent enemy any other way, GD.
