>>5294543>I also need to learn to write better mysteryNot mystery, but I have a tip for the horror aspect which is what attracted me to the quest in first place: don't try to explain alien/spooky shit, don't elaborate on dangers ("theres this fish"), don't visually show dangers on radar (replace fish with like some weird markers). The sense of unknown is fucking EVERYTHING and once you let players know what they're dealing with it all goes to shit.
>ciphersI put it into the solver purely because I didn't have a fucking clue about ciphers or any starting point. Trying to solve ciphers by hand without knowing what type of ciphers they are is literally just a waste of time and those tools the only way to avoid going insane.
Plus I am prone to making mistakes.Solution:
Make easy cyphers, but using custom systems that you will give instructions for. It will actually become an activity and not autosolvable.>honingI think it was a fun thing to do, just wish the data for it wasn't buried under mountains of text. It matches the main mechanic of the game very well, being math and triangle shit, 'n all.
>aestheticIt was perfectly good and soulful from the beginning. The following changes just felt forced and generally weren't needed, aside for GPS data and unit name once we had more than one of subs.
>upgradesMan, this is gonna hurt, but the only upgrade I thought was nice and justified were torpedoes (you should introduce some unbreakable terrain to prevent individuals like me from nuking half of the map, tho). They felt fucking amazing and made the whole thing appear much more interactive.
I have little experience with movment error, but feel like it was... just a nuisance you have to deal with eventually. The idea of putting a fun-blocker in the game and then patching it by an "optional" "upgrade" is awful and I hate games that do this shit, because it's fundamentally pointless. You could just as well add a Scrap Tax to remove error on the first station, instead.
All that horrible shit being said, I found (smaller) imperfect angles kinda engaging. They stopped the math from being boring and encouraged players to use more commands in order to make turns. Maybe making the max error% lower would prevent it from getting to the point where it's a real problem?
>TorpedoesI'd make them work without the upgrade, but cost a significant sum of U-Bux. Maybe add different models with different explosion shapes?
>Fuel and 02Just for trading? Or Minecraftesque hunger system?
>my initial plan was to prevent you from even knowing where you are preciselyThis would kill off all the new players. Speaking of, if you run again, you should really put together a skirmish-like instruction sheet with all the basics. Explain that N=y and E=x, show what the movement commands in all 4 directions look like and add compass to visualize it, etc.
