“I hope so too..” Helena says solemnly.
After another fifteen minutes or so, you’re finally back in Brisbane, and Helena starts giving directions on where to go.
After a short drive through several streets, you arrive at your destination: An abandoned comic book store.
You check your surroundings, and notice a distinct lack of giant green robots around. A good sign, but also bad. “Think your brother is around?” You ask.
“Doesn’t seem like it.. Hang on, give me your radio. “ she says, and you hand it to her. “If I tune in to a Zeon frequency….” She mutters to herself as she adjusts the radio. “There we go!” She says excitedly. You try to get a subtle peek at the frequency, and note the numbers you manage to catch in your mind. “Captain Zeon has arrived!” She speaks into the radio, then hands it back to you.
“Some kind of secret code?” You ask.
Helena nods, “Yep, if he heard it, he’ll come running!” Helena smiles, and you can’t help but smile too. After all the death and violence, it’s refreshing to see a genuine happy smile.
“You must be happy to see your brother again soon.” You say.
“I am! Thank you.. I wasn't sure if I'd ever see him again. I wasn't even sure if I'd still be alive yesterday.. life sure takes interesting turns sometimes, huh? Thanks for trusting me."
"Yeah.. I didn't think I'd have a casual conversation with an enemy soldier like this."
"And I didn't think I'd get to ever find this issue of The Federators." Gaspa adds, flipping through a comic book on one of the run down shelves.
"Wait.. I think I hear something." You look out the shop's window, and see the unmistakable image of a Zaku far in the distance slowly coming closer. You can't help but feel a bit tense.
"Don't worry man, you know what you're doing." Gaspa says with a pat, noticing your uneasiness. You hope he's right, not just for your sake, but for the sake of all the lives that could be saved today.
You all watch the Zaku grow larger as it gets closer, and you feel a sense of.. unpreparedness without your Regina. But you try to shake those feelings away, it's not that kind of situation. At least, you hope.
As the Zaku comes to a stop, the cockpit opens and a man rappels down to street level, quickly running into the abandoned store. "Helena!" he shouts.
"Will!" She shouts back, and the two embrace, Helena almost falling off of her wheelchair and her brother catching her.
"Your legs, are you okay?" he asks, looking over to you and Gaspa. "....Who are they?" he then asks, pulling out his gun as he sees your uniforms.
"Will, wait! It's okay! They brought me here. They saved me." Helena interjects. She explains everything that's lead up to now, and Will slowly lowers his gun. He takes off his helmet to look you in the eyes, and extends his hand. You extend yours in kind and a firm handshake is exchanged.
