By both the group decision, as well as Nasir's own self confidence in his abilities, he is the one to open the cask.
Putting his hands around the lightweight stone top, he slides it across and waits a moment to peek inside- everyone waits with a held breath to hear a banshee cry or feel a rush of death come from the box- but nothing happens. Jon scoffs- ”Some curse.”. The treasure trove is a funeral box with decayed remains at the bottom- but most noticeably are the intricate treasures laid around the bones.
“Oh! Look at these- silver!”
”Didn't he say he was the richest man around? I was hoping for gold...”
“But look at how well they are crafted! Plus the gemstones- this is a great treasure indeed. Perhaps the lion's share of his wealth went to his children- but he kept this treasure just for himself. And now, it's for us!”
With giddiness, in almost flagrant disregard for the supposed “curse” put upon him, Nasir reaches into the box and takes out the silver treasures, putting the rings on his fingers. He shines in the torchlight- a welcome addition to your group's haul for this trip.
”Eeek! Look! Look!” Elly suddenly says. Jon whips around to see her pointing at something on the floor- a big fat rat.
”Look! It's staring at Nasir! It's the curse! It happened already!”
”Elly- it's just a rat. There are rats in every tomb and crypt in the whole wide world.”
”No, no! It's looking right at him! Why would a rat get this close!? Maybe you should put it back!?”
“Nonsense girl. This ain't a thing.”
”Elly, I knew you were scared of bugs, but rats now too? Haha.”
”That's not funny! - Grrr!”
Jon kicked a pebble to scare the rat away, and then the men in the group counted up their newfound fortune. Any thoughts of a curse were mostly put aside- after all, what harm could a rat do? Elly's fears and concerns were being written off and it burned her.
