I'm their Goddess of Victory, because they all believe in me to win. They watched me win for years upon years, and all that belief is what made me a goddess.” you say, watching your mother's mind work behind her eyes as she listens to your words. “Cauli was given her divinity from the last Darkmoon god, taking his knowledge of what the power is and can do, and more importantly what it means to be the Darkmoon.”
“And when Chilli became a Death God, it was because he had the power of Death within him. He knew what it would mean to become that deity, and embraced it.” your mother says, understanding what you're getting at. “What you're saying is I need to figure out what I'm a goddess of?”
“Yes. But not figure out. You have to decide.” you tell her, standing up and taking both her hands in yours, pulling her up to her feet as well. “I chose to become the Goddess of Victory, as Tanya became a Goddess of Strategy alongside me. Obtaining divine power's only the first step mom. Once you have it, you have to carve your own place out with it. And that includes dethroning who or whatever held that title before you. Some will surrender quietly, knowing they can't compete, while others will fight until the end. But you have to choose what kind of deity you want to be. What you want to be the goddess of, what you want to be. Even if that's to be the Goddess of Victory.”
You then release her hands, cracking your knuckles as you grin at her.
“But if you're coming for my title, mom, I won't make it easy.” you say, to which your mother laughs. A genuine laugh, not a small, polite one. She laughs for several seconds before regaining her composure. Eyes blazing now with a new fire, not one of rage, but of understanding and newfound determination.
“I won't take what you've spent so long building. But I get it now. If I want to push this divine power further, it needs a cause. Not just a want to be more.” your mother says, reaching up and patting you on the shoulder. “Thank you, Chaya. This means more to me than you know.”
You return her grin with one of your own, happy to have helped. But as you both talk, about less serious, heavy subjects now, your mind keeps wandering back to one question: what kind of deity will your mom choose to be?
