>>5599680You head off the main path and follow a dirt trail deeper into the woods. Liam looks around, transfixed by the greenery zooming by. The two of you catch sight of various Pokémon as you drive by. Dappled sunlight shines down on the train tracks ahead, and you begin to follow them. There are intermittent stumps on either side, where trees have been cleared to make space. The wood that makes up the tracks is old and rotted, and the metal is rusty. Yellowish moss fills in the gaps, and you catch sight of a pair of Pidove bathing in a shaded puddle between the struts. They're still around, and gradually becoming part of the ecosystem. Might be too late to completely drive them off.
"Never been out here either, I guess?"
"No. Never."
"Are you nervous? Hunting isn't for everyone, so if you want to stay in the truck-"
He shakes his head.
"I'm already all the way out here. I want to learn more about what you do. Plus, I work in a restaurant, can't be shy about this kind of stuff."
Yeah, that's a good attitude. You nod and continue driving, following the tracks until you see the chain-link fence. Despite the elements beating down on it for years, the fence has held up. You can't get through it by car, so you look around for any kind of entrance. You remember Brady telling you about a break in the fence on the North edge, so you drive all the way up there until you catch sight of it. That's when you kill the engine and head to the back of your truck to look through your equipment. Scyther is let out of his ball, and he immediately takes off, enjoying the fresh forest air. Liam watches him flit around, no longer as nervous as before.
"First thing we should do is go in and scout the area out. Scyther will keep us safe, so no need to worry about encountering anything in the tall grass." You explain.
He nods and takes a sip from his sports drink. The weather is nice and cooling, and the recent rain has caused the parched plants to start flourishing again. New growths and budding flowers are visible in the bushes. There are puddles of water from a late-night drizzle.
The three of you head for the fence.
