Interlude- Augments
“Are you at least adjusting to your new improvements? I have limited experience with augmentation for pilots, outside of an extreme example I encountered fighting for the Tamar Alliance.”
“Improvements is certainly a thing to call them. The Vehicular Direct Neural Interface, or VeeDeeEye works alright. Got plugged into some other walkers and could make them move, or operate without physical controls from my bed. The cord was really really long.
The leg’s also workable. Takes inputs from the VeeDeeEye pretty well, and lets me walk again. The arm’s still a work in progress. Can throw a punch well. Carries some other things. That’s about it, fine control is a crapshoot half the time. Sometimes a glass orb or eyepatch like the old man would be better than this thing.”
She indicates an eye.
“Autotrack targets, sure. Takes over the retinal nerves so I can actually take in and interpret sensor data directly. Has better focusing than the mark one eyeball. But some code monkeys didn’t work out the quirks, so outside of actively using the VDNI, it changes modes at the most inopportune times. And moisture makes it sting like nothing else.
Two wins, a draw, and a loss. But it was either this, be left drooling, or die. And I'm Not going to rot away quietly."
A/N
Didn't flow in the prior update cleanly, so I slapped it afterwards. Yes, she could definitely use a hand.
