>>5722100hehe, these days I don't watch that many films.
What films do you like? Do any film scenes inspire your rpg encounters?
As they say in Family Guy: I did not care for the Godfather; it insists upon itself. Recently I watched mostly old films - Lawrence Of Arabia, because ALL SCI-FI comes from the imagery of this film (absent TE Lawrence barely suppressed homoerotic thoughts argh) I watched Kubrick Dr Strangelove, I watched nearly every Tarkovsky film, I watched a random Russian film called Duelyant 2016 because I was browsing on imfdb for films with lots of flintlock guns lol, this film has A LOT of duelling pistols hehe (the film itself is sort of average, fairly stereotypical revenge swashbuckling story, yes, there are NAKED WOMAN BOSOMs and slightly unconvincing corsets and costumes. Also someone tries to rape an eskimo / Aleutian shaman? Fortunately he gets his face blown off by a musket and falls into a fire pit)
In terms of a director that I often think of when imagining the look of my games, I usually come back to Ridley Scott, his films like Legend (1985) Alien (perhaps more the James Cameron Aliens though), Blade Runner etc. I especially like films where there is relentless attention to minutiae of the historical setting or period, for example the Russell Crowe Napoleonic Master And Commander (2003), or something like Last Of The Mohicans by Michael Mann (1992). I have also absorbed huge amounts of costume dramas and period pieces, I think because in the UK all TV was just like Charles Dickens and Jane Austen and Sherlock Holmes and Shakespeare adaptations when I was growing up, nowadays I do not think they can really convincingly assemble the feel of that sort of production any more. All the actresses now have smartphone face, they look too modern (also their mannerisms, it is hard to describe). I also like one-take films (single continuous shot, no cutaway), I mentioned the Sam Mendes WWI film 1917 in my quest, but a lesser known one would be something like the German heist thriller Victoria (2015)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_(2015_film)Often when I write my quests I have in mind specific dramatic cinema scenes, whether it is like Tom Cruise from Michael Mann Collateral, John Milius / Schwarzenegger Conan, Kathryn Bigelow's vampire film Near Dark (1987) or Strange Days or The Hurt Locker hehe etc. I like to watch the entire oeuvre of a director if they are good.
