Melvinland was once the most technologically advanced of all the nations. Creating computers, artificial intelligence, and motorized vehicles. But, you see, the only reason they were able to do this is because the leader of the nation, Melvin Melvin, had made a deal with an ancient evil put underneath the island by Life, known as Orthos. Orthos demanded an annual sacrifice of 67 children. Melvin and the government did right by this deal for many years, and in return were given the blueprints to create amazing and powerful technology.
But then, one day, Melvin got cocky. He decided he didn't need to do right by this deal anymore, and sent in the military to try to kill Orthos.
Orthos had none of this, and so Orthos destroyed the entirety of Melvinland, killed 98% of the population, and turned the island into a hellscape surrounded by red toxic clouds.
The only people who were not killed were turned into a hivemind known simply as The Red Dot. No one knows what those who are within the red dot experience, but most people assume it isn't good.
