Rather than encourage the casual consumption of this honey water, the leaders of the Protavic seek to limit the use of alcohol to events of religious and cultural significance. Whenever a child is born or a tribesman dies or a new leader is selected, cups of <span class="mu-s">butol</span> are distributed among those who have reason to revel or grieve, to bolster their drocrom and grant them strength in the coming days.
Each great family comes to possess a master of rites, a sort of prototypical priest who has a ceremonial role rather than a practical one. They are responsible for the brewing and safekeeping of butol, a process that involves the predigestion of the essence found within the honey, so that it may join more readily with the spirit of the one who imbibes it. At least, that is how they interpret the science behind fermentation and intoxication.
A generation passes.
Throughout their existence, the Protavic have valued their women rather highly. They sacrificed a great deal of wealth in order to secure the safety of their women from the Bravigrovic, they allow their women to fight for the tribe of their own volition (whereas men have no choice in the matter) and the first great hero in the history of the tribe was Glavolan – a woman.
This leads to some members of the Protavic valuing women more highly than men. After all, their wombs are the source of the tribe's future, the sacred vessels in which essence of the mother and the father mingles and coalesces into offspring. This religious importance, coupled with the historical precedent, may result in some dramatic changes in the tribe.
They could <span class="mu-s">become matriarchal</span>. Those who are male are seen as disposable labourers and warriors, while those who are female are responsible for leading the tribe and dictating its future.
They could <span class="mu-s">instate polyandry</span>. Women are expected to have multiple male partners, so that their wombs may swallow greater quantities of drocrom and produce stronger children.
They could <span class="mu-s">worship feminity</span>. Though the women of the tribe will not gain any practical power, the Protavic will come to revere the female body and grant it even more religious importance.
They could <span class="mu-s">protect women</span>. Those who are female are seen as precious. They shall no longer be allowed to fight and men shall be burdened with the responsibility of protecting them.
They could <span class="mu-s">disregard this nonsense</span>. Women are not more valuable than men and those who believe otherwise are a minority. This foolish belief must be eradicated and the tribe must return to its senses.
