>>5992268Pure coincidence, I ran from December 2022 to May 2023 and it ended a year ago on the dot (+1 day). I consider it to be something more like Dungeon Meshi or Toriko (Neither of which I have actually watched), which is a culinary-themed spin on an existing genre. The quest had a focus on building a restaurant, establishing menu items and specialty dishes, the actual culinary process from catch to cook, speculative culinary science that involves berries and pokemon types affecting taste, etc. I also tried to make a stardew-valley esque relationship system with villagers, and a constant stream of morning newspapers establishing the region's setting. It's a bit of an unfortunate overlap that it's being side-eyed, but this is something I wrote as a huge food enthusiast, and a lot of that went into the writing. Was particularly overjoyed when it prompted a reader to go out and try new seafood options. Though, part of it was made out of spite because I really didn't like some S&V pokemon and thought it'd be funny to butcher them. Fuck you Goldengho you ugly cheese mascot piece of shit.
Japanese fishing videos were a big inspiration for it too. Particularly this guy.
