“I… I don’t know why I even went to that part of the infirmary. What is wrong with me. But I saw Ash. Doing physical therapy, learning to walk after… she saw me, fell. Started to cry. I ran. It was-“
“Oh. Oh, Aubrey. I’m sorry. So sorry. But she is okay, alive, r-right- she”
“I don’t want to talk about it. Please. We weren’t best friends but I’ve known her since my first day here. Please."
“Y-yeah of course; you don’t have too. Alright. Let’s just focus on the books, okay? If you do need to, talk, anyone of use would listen though.”
“Yeah. ‘Kay. Thanks.”

>117 total out of 250 research points gained! You quickly kind of stalled out on one front. Turns out one of the most secure places in North America didn’t really want all the specifics of its defenses out there for any one to learn. You had managed to learn some after a few hours, however. That Ilvermorny had multiple overlapping defensive wards and barriers, with several being tied together so the Headmistress or Headmaster could easily work with them. That, according to a couple of authors, there was a central command and control center for many of the wider protections. That some places had their own unconnected protections; important ones such as the Headmaster and Mistress’ offices, the infirmary, and something you could only find a single mention of referred to as ‘the Vault’.
Suppose that many of the wards being linked explained why damaging the anti-magic shield knocked out a bunch of other protections. Likewise, the fact that the shields were intended to detect attempts against them from the outside went a way to explaining why them being damaged from the inside went undetected for so long.
Finally, MACUSA helped with maintaining some wards to keep no-maj from discovering Ilvermorny along with ones built in like having its thick cover of clouds; saw that the Forests were far larger than no-maj maps suggested. And? In the worst case of the school being penetrated, an exceptionally strong barrier could be activated around the Castle proper after evacuating students to it.
Interesting but not terribly relevant, though that singular mention of a Vault peaked your curiosity.
On Macy’s end, she was running the book wheel like it was a tire on a formula 1 race car in between knocking back a few of Aubrey’s pep pills while jotting notes down before she scurried out and returned with a large map from an excursion 100 years prior to map-out the Forests and asses Beast populations.
“I need a copy of this so I can plot some points on it… I figured something out, I think; exactly where those balls of Magic landed. Exactly. Jenn? Can you use the Gemino Charm?”
“Ah, Bradford can. He has made copies of stuff for me before… that is really advanced magic. Like beyond N.E.W.T level.”, Aubrey helpfully provided.
