>>5338971>>5338996Thank you KismetQM, I really enjoy your approach to xianxia! I read some of your last quest too, but the most recent one is a bit more relatable for me because it is framed as a videogame mmorpg, I have watched 全职高手 etc.
If you ever need some art images, for places, NPCs, weapons, assets etc I can try and help (mostly it seems you have that covered though!)
Thank you anons for those blog glossary links, I have found them and need to slowly digest all of that lore. What especially fascinates me is some of the bestiaries, I did not know any of that three-legged sun crow or Black Emperor intestine serpent turtle stuff lol, yay!
All my reading is mostly western fantasy stuff, my inspiration comes from all cliche canonical literature from Shakespeare Austen Bronte Dickens stuff, Beowulf or Tolkien or Mervyn Peake or Jack Vance etc. I know some Chinese literature basically I read White Tiger Inner Sanctum with Lin Chong and some Outlaws of The Marsh, I know some vague Three Kingdoms stuff too (strangely, have never played any of the videogames at all). The most hardcore videogame thing I ever did was import and play through about 60% of Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin (I do not speak Japanese lol) eventually I did get stuck though.
But what I am more interested in for rpgs is historical approaches to magic. In my worldbuilding for settings I really like using actual forgotten historical religions and myths, like I mentioned the Mandaeism Mesopotamian gnostic stuff or Sumerian or mesoamerican or obscure tarot inspiration etc.
Something I was thinking about for a pseudo wuxia or xianxia magic system is one based on calligraphy and etymology of the seal script Chinese characters. Maybe construct some magic based on divination pictograms looking at the old Yinxu ruins oracle bones script etc.
Generally interested in finding historical sources to wuxia xianxia like Zhuangzi descriptions of divine beings etc like I mentioned above. But failing that, just any cool videogame or mystical literary novel stuff will do for inspiration too!
