Another roar echoed off the mountains, rustling the trees. She looked around at the verdant life spilling down the previously barren hill, out to the new stream thronged by saplings and greenery, that surge of life working its way steadily toward the red lake. Her golem stood by, waiting for orders, the black stone set off to one side.
She glanced down at the note and frowned. The hell was Babs thinking, sending Mel away like a scared child. The note crumpled into a trembling fist. How many times had someone told her and her family to run away? How many times had she packed her things in a hurry and fled one place for another?
“Golem, head for the red lake, as fast as you can. Take this, get as close to that monster as you can and smash it.” The golem accepted the cloudy marble and stumped off. Now for her own preparations. Thank...well not the gods but whoever else might be listening that she had a decent set of clothes to work with finally. Wands, potions, and spell crystals were tucked into pockets in a hurry. She tucked a ring and middle finger together into a sachet, a quick enchantment and fire later and she could create an imp on the fly, although she wasn’t sure if she wanted to go for a first or second tier imp, either way as long as it come out angry and closer to an enemy than her. She tossed her black agate into a jar as well, she could grab some hawthorne on her way out and enchant an antidote potion on the fly as well if she needed.
She turned toward the red lake. No one made her run away, not men, not monsters, not gods.
