It's Friday, so that means Lore.
The Principality of Pleniflora
The Principality of Pleniflora occupies the lands surrounding Lake Pleniflora in the southwestern territory of the Empire of Roses. To its east sits the Mavrosdasos, a great untamed forest that spreads north from the eastern reaches of Briarcrown. To its west, it borders the Rosarian Ivylands, and to the north sits the Principality of Tourenia. To its south lay the Briarcrown, and beyond it the Daffodil Kingdom.
Though the territory of Pleniflora makes it the largest Principality in total area, it is the smallest Principality in terms of population and landmass. Most of its territory is eaten up by Lake Pleniflora, the largest body of fresh water in the world. The lake - and its navigable connection to the Sea of Moonlight through the Ivystem - make the principality a bustling center of trade. The fishing villages that surrounded the lake grew into port towns and inland trade hubs, making them indispensible for carrying metal from the Rosland's interior mountains to buyers along the coast and in other countries.
The Principality is ruled by Princeps Octavian de Pleniflora, who carries the prestige equal to that of a Daffodil Kingdom Duke. He is known to be a polymath and a scholar, having planned to become a Professor of the Mathic Arts at the University of Roses prior to his rather sudden ascendancy to the throne ten years ago.
Octavian is the eighth son of the former Princeps Pleniflora, Martin de Pleniflora, and did not expect to inherit the throne. However, the aftermath of the Deeplands Expedition left his father unable to rule and his elder brothers unable to inherit. He was left behind at the young age of 22 to help his mother raise his youngest brother into a fine man, and to rule the Principality. He very quickly rebuilt the alliances his father had assembled, and reminded the less compliant territories of why they should follow him peacefully.
He considers himself to be a cursed man. He did not seek dominion, but he could not stand by and watch the principality tear itself apart into squabbling feudal estates without his father to lead them. He despises the wasted lives of war, and so in a true battle he fights as viciously as honor will permit. His heart yearns for a woman strong enough to stand beside him and be his pillar, yet the heart of the only one he has found belongs to another man.
