Kokuwamon wakes up before Doc finishes his calibration of the two devices. He gives you an apologetic smile, and gets up halfway to attend to his Digimon. You don't begrudge him leaving his work unfinished. After just a day, you've come to understand the worry he must have felt when the metal bug went missing.
<span class="mu-s">"D O C . . . ?"</span>
"That's me. You're safe now, Kokuwamon."
Their reunion is swift. The little Digimon speaks in its stuttering, static-filled voice, trying to explain its final moments to Doc Cracker. He nods in understanding, brushing aside its excuses and apologies, and quickly cutting in with reassurances. It's fine, he's back now, and that's all that matters. He then looks towards the Solarmon that's recuperating in a different corner of his workshop. The sweltering heat is even worse now that a fifth Rookie Digimon is under his roof, but it seems to be revitalizing the little guy. You can't help but think that his gear-like edges look a lot more dented than when you found him. Maybe, just maybe, being used as the center of a bicycle wheel had something to do with it.
"Marnie. Thank you for getting him back to me. He has no Digivice, the four of them are helping me of their own accord. There really was no way to trace him, apart from going on foot."
"Yeah. Don't mention it. It was a struggle to get the two of them back, though..."
"I can imagine. Which one did you put in backup?"
"Backup?"
"I'm guessing Solarmon. Harder to deal with the heat than the weight. Until you-"
"No, what the hell is <span class="mu-i">backup</span>?!"
A bemused Doc explains it to you. At first, you're angry at him for not telling you about it. You start stomping off, but he quickly calls you over to your suspended Digivice, showing you just how easy it was to access it. He suggests it might have been on you for not doing your due diligence and exploring its functions, citing your consent to him saving the lessons for when you brought back Kokuwamon.
Then it hits you, and you feel that anger come back twofold. Who was it who said, over and over, that there was no room in the Digivice? That there was no way to hold multiple. The way Doc described the feature was abundantly clear. If you had known about it, either Kokuwamon or Solarmon could have gone straight in to the storage slot. It might have been easier to transport them, easier to flee Espimon, and easier to get all the way across the city. You've spent time, effort, .apps, and then suffered plenty from having your body directly damaged.
All because Phascomon held out on you. He lied.
