>>5295506>“Return to the dormitory? We're being attacked! You can't expect us just to hole up in our rooms waiting to be burned down with the monastery!''Serena looks at you sadly. “I’m sorry, Blair. I know you’re a good girl, but these are orders from the Archbishop herself. We’ve already had several defections from the Black Eagles tonight. Until the Professor can get the situation under control, I’m afraid I can’t authorize anyone from your house to take a pegasus. Beathan will be safe here until such a time as you’re allowed to ride him.”
“You heard her, now get out of here!” The knight shouts, shooing you and Corrine away.
“That went well.” Corrine muses. “Now what? That pegasus was our ticket out of here. This place is locked down tighter than a vault and leaving on foot will prove a difficult task. If we go back to the dormitory, I imagine we’ll be questioned. After all, three of my squad mates are currently lying dead outside the burned out remains of your room.”
>“That is a problem. Just as troublingly, Serena mentioned there’s already been defections from the Black Eagles tonight. Were there any other students here that were also part of the Flame Emperor’s Army?”Corrine shakes her head. “Students, no. Just the boys and me. Which means…my fears came true. It sounds as though some of the students who accompanied Edelgard to the Holy Tomb joined forces with her.”
Dorothea. Bernadetta. Your mind wanders to the two Black Eagles you were closest with. Had they really joined themselves to Edelgard? You shake the thoughts away. You fear for their safety, and you wish them the best, but right now, you need to focus on the present situation.
>“Putting that aside for now, our options for getting out of here have been limited. While some of our classmates have chosen to defect, it sounds as though Professor Byleth has remained loyal to the Church. When Serena mentioned she’d be getting the situation under control, I imagine that meant ensuring there are no remaining defectors within the Black Eagles. We could go to her and perhaps come clean about the whole thing. Though it’s likely she’d have us fight, at the very least we’d be able to have access to Beathan once given the Professor’s permission.”“We also have the option of laying low, until the battle begins. I doubt they’ll care much about watching the stables once the monastery is under attack. The fighting itself should serve as good cover to make out of here unnoticed.”
>“Barring that, we could always try and find another route of escape. Surely the Knights don’t intend for the civilians here to get caught up in the crossfire?”Corrine sports a grim look on her face. “I wouldn’t be so sure of that. They are at a severe numerical disadvantage after all. Desperate times may call for desperate measure. They may also be called upon to defend the monastery.”
