In theory, this would clearly delineate the functions of the metallic shell and radiotrophic flesh and allow both to work more efficiently unmerged, but in practice, this has weakened the structural integrity of the leaded shell. It’s filled with holes, negating most of its radioactive insulation and what’s there is brittle without nearby flesh holding it in place, rendering the flesh beneath much likelier to be damaged. At the same time, Flounder Feeders are able to continue taking advantage of their radiotrophy well into maturity.
