>>5892335Still, any additional manpower would be helpful. And with Erwin and his blasting powder secured, as well as some extra Agarthium, you were willing to write-off Akzeriuth as a huge success. You report as much back to Gerald once you return. Upon seeing him, you get the feeling that he didn’t expect you to be quite so successful. When he learns that the Blackwings suffered almost zero casualties, he seems hardly able to believe it.
“And the enemy mercenaries?” Gerald asks, incredulously.
>“Defeated to a man. They won’t be bothering us any further. There were some Rusalkan Guard who’d surrendered but were unwilling to join forces. I decided to let them go.”“Not quite the decision I would have made.” Gerald says. “Those men feel as though they owe the Count for taking care of their families. Many of them will likely return to the castle to assist with bolstering its defenses. Still…” He trails off. “I had no idea your company was so…efficient. Even if they do return to the castle, I can’t imagine it will hardly matter. Not with you and the blasting powder on our side.” He chuckles darkly, before playfully offering you a round of applause. “Well then, no time to waste. Let’s plan our assault on the castle.”
>“Agreed. We should press the advantage while we can. Are your men ready to go?”“Aye. That’s a good teacher you left us. Sir Leopold managed to teach them the proper point of the spear to stab the enemy with. I don’t expect any of them to run away once the fighting starts. Hell, at this point they’re probably more scared of Leopold than the enemy. We can be ready to move in a day or two."
>You nod. “Yep, sounds like they’re ready alright. I’ll begin devising some plans to assault the castle.”That night, you begin making preparations to lead the siege on Castle Rusalka. Numerically, both sides stand to be about even. The biggest problem you face will be breaching the walls. While the blasting powder should be enough to punch a hole for your men to charge through, it’s a feat easier said than done. The castle is situated atop a large hill, with forest and terrain directly below it that would slow down any besieging army. You’d need to somehow carry the powder up the hill without triggering an explosion, and while being shot at by enemy snipers atop the walls.
Feeling as though you’re in need of some outside thinking, you decide to consult some of your members as to what they think the best course of action might be.
>A): Winona had mentioned planning to attack Rusalka with the Hellwings. Perhaps she has advice to offer.>B): Your enemy is not just the castle’s defenders, but the Agarthans inside. Anemone and Eulalia might be able to assist.>C): Caleb had somehow become your company’s engineer overnight. Perhaps he could think of a way to use the Blasting Powder effectively.
