I have also been watching lots of medieval films, just to get in the mood for this, I watched Pillars Of The Earth (based on the White Ship / Battle Of Lincoln / The Anarchy 1138-53 England Normandy civil war) and I also watched El Cid (1961) with Charlton Heston lol lol, this film looks literally like a cinematic rendition of Medieval 2 Total War Spain campaign.
>death, everyone diesAt the end of this film, El Cid is holding Valencia castle against the invading black African ? Almoravids, they are apparently the evil ones because they are wearing black face veil turban tribal shroud things (tagelmust?) whereas the good muslims are dressed in white shiny armour and unveiled, so they are obviously on Charlton Heston's side.
Anyway, Charlton Heston has not played the Medieval 2 Total War campaign, he charges into a loosed rain of arrows and gets struck by one in the heart and dies (it takes a very long time, it is cinematically a bit embarrassing).
And exactly like in the Medieval 2 Total War videogame, when the general is killed the army morale breaks, the soldiers will rout and the evil black tribal muslims will win oh no...
So the good muslims and the Castilian knights strap the corpse of El Cid to his horse on some armature, bind his lance to his hand or something, and the next day his mounted corpse charges into battle alongside white shiny good muslims and Castilian knights etc. And the evil tribal black veil people are terrified by this apparition returned from the dead, they all flee and are speared into the sea.
