TalOS watched as another of his fleet found themselves too close to the enemy. Lighting went across the void and struck the hardened steel surface of the Tartarus ship known as the Canticle of Faith. The first strike had destroyed its shields and carried itself across the hull in a near heart wrenching display of power.
These shocks were powerless but the next others carried along the psychic might that TalOS knew the Xenos capable of. Large explosions carried throughout the ship as several shots slammed into it from at least five ships of the Xenos.
One cannot underestimate the power of the Xenos when it came to destruction. At this medium range their abilities were optimal.
It was fifteen minutes after they breached the Asteroid belt, xenos had claimed eight of the Mechanicum’s ships. In return TalOS was able to inflict a toll of fifteen ships on their fleet. With support from the now close-by fortress the Xenos were experiencing attrition for their arrogance in trying to take them out in a single battle.
TalOS could not blame them though. With his ships outranging them and the obvious Station A-1 in the local area they won’t be able to seige them. Of course they could just try and siege the region but Warp Transit was something you must account for in these conditions.
It is far easier to siege a stationary planet from orbit than it is a fleet that can leave existence itself with enough time given.
TalOS hated it but this was within his estimates. There was always the consideration that he can start ramming the enemy but with their numbers superiority it was an easy way to lose your entire fleet. Thus this scheme here was employed where TalOS could need to leverage the might of their makeshift Space Station.
He smiled as the fleet passed the Space Station and the Xenos began to fire upon the station instead. As he estimated the toughness of the station was quickly making itself evident as the attacks of numerous Voidcraft were not shattering its shield like it had the others. In that moment the ratio of attacks between Xenos and Human ships being traded off escalated from what was a one to one.
With all their attacks tracked the Xenos began to lose a ship every minute thanks to the suppressive fire of the Mechicum. One ship down, then a second, third and fourth were lost in a glorious consecutive round of attacks.
The cost of building the station proved itself upon the death of the fourth. With the cost of the station justified TalOS gave a smile.
