But all thoughts of your comrades flew out the window when you were presented with a crimson vial. There were orange particles floating around inside, flashing and blinking out in a mystifying pattern. You almost reached over to snatch it out of the doctor’s hands.
“We’ve successfully managed to synthesize a formula that should stabilize your new powers. We hope…”
You gave him a flat look.
“Well I hoped that you would’ve been a bit more confident in your math.”
The doctor cleared his throat.
“We’re fairly certain that this will work in a way that purely benefits you. There shouldn’t be any downsides to your transformation. This is a very controlled experiment. After we infuse your body with the Horton Cell enriched synthetic blood, you should start to notice an immediate change.”
“Uh-huh. And what are the odds that I turn into a hideous monster after you pump me full of that stuff?”
The doctor pushed up his glasses and gave the vial another speculative glance.
“Next to none. Your contributions here ensured that our margin of error is nearly non-existent.”
Your eyes darted between him, the vial and Gloria, who was patiently watching the exchange. But you could also tell that she was eager to see what would come of this experiment.
You sighed and gestured for her to proceed with the operation.
“Fine. Let’s get this over with. It won’t be the first time this week that I’ve done weird things to my body.”
That caused everyone to stop what they were doing and look up at you in concern.
“What?”

After you were strapped down and had a syringe plunged into your arm, you waited patiently for the transfusion to begin. There were no oversized levers or big red buttons, but you did wince a bit at the feeling of having your blood forcefully drawn from you. The procedure was slow, gradual and even a little bit boring. The people standing over you didn’t offer much in the way of interesting conversation. They mostly talked to each other, or not at all. Every now and again, they’d ask you how you were doing, but you got tired of answering after the third or fourth time. You felt a bit faint, but it wasn’t anything worth complaining about.
Eventually, they proclaimed that the transfusion had been a success, and removed the syringes from your arms. You didn’t feel very different, but you were more than a little concerned about what they were going to do with that big fat bag of radioactive spider blood they had over there.
You were about to ask about it, when one of the scientists walked up and poked you with a cattle prod! You yelped and whirled around to curse at her, but then…something happened!
>Your entire body began to heat up!
>Your heartbeat started beating faster than it ever had before!
