And I hoped, with every fiber of my being, that I would be able to convince the poor child. To spare him of a worse fate, and to drive off the influence of the Dark Below. I had no idea why I was able to see the presence of the devil itself, but it told me deep within, some unfathomable urge of mine, that I must spite it at all costs. That I have to contest and detest H-E-U-S back to the pit. I have to become the beacon that lights shadow.
I opened my mouth to speak.
'Please Child... can't you see that you are playing right into 'his' hands?'
[WOLFMAN] "Huh?" He blinked.
'Those of He who is Us?'
[WOLFMAN] "He who is... us? ...! Y-You're talking about...!"
'He would wish us to be divided, and massacring each other, so that he can more easily finish us off when he finally decides to step foot on Woldoria. You say that Friendship and Love is fake, but have you forgotten of how many times Humans have put themselves on the line to save others that weren't them?!'
I accused him. I had to use undeniable facts. One who deals in heuristic reasoning cannot prevail against truth. Especially not a child.
[WOLFMAN] "I..."
[ ] "STOP."
[WOLFMAN] "..."
[ ] "S̴͚͕̏T̷̗̋O̵̊̐Ṕ̸̞͈!̷̬͂̑"
[WOLFMAN] "yEhk-!"
[ ] "DON'T LISTEN TO HER. IT IS FOOLISHNESS. DON'T YOU WANT JUSTICE? DON'T YOU WANT TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT?"
I tightened my scowl. The thing tried to counter me. To contradict me. It was clever, and it was powerful. It knew that the truth was not as good to hear for some as blind provocation. A malign Yes Man.
[HE IS US] "LITTLE CUB. LISTEN TO ME. ONLY ME. HUMANS ARE FULL OF MALICE. THEY BURN DOGS FOR FUN. THEY SLAUGHTER ENDANGERED TURTLES FOR LAUGHS. THEY SET STRAYS ON FIRE AND GIVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE. THEY'LL SHOOT DEAD A FAMILY OF ELEPHANTS ON WHOSE TURF THEY FIRST INVADED AND TORE DOWN, ALL FOR JUST DEFENDING THEMSELVES. THEY TORTURE YOUR KIND INTO CIRCUS ANIMALS. THEY CAGE YOU. AND DON'T FORGET, THEY MADE OF YOU CATTLE. YOUR KIND'S DEATH IS THE POINT OF ALL FARMS. EVERY ANIMAL IS DELICIOUS TO THE ONES WITH OPPOSABLE THUMBS."
[ ] "DOESN'T IT ANGER YOU, CHILD? WHERE IS YOUR RAGE? RISE! DON'T YOU WANT TO KILL THEM FIRST BEFORE THEY KILL YOU?"
I had enough.
[MAJORDOMO] "Tear him apart before the lupin falls in his hands!"
'Do you not remember that Humanity treasures its companions like nothing else? Even more than themselves?'
Wolfman stared at me, unable to deny this. It's like he knew from experience. There were many humans in the world whose devotion to their animal outweighed even their devotion to other humans. It was a position of heavy criticism, but it was true.
'Besides... you are contradicting yourself, aren't you? You said you relied on the humans, but is that not because you considered them part of your ''pack''? Don't wolf packs rely on each other? With everyone providing and doing their part?
[WOLFMAN] "But... But I don't want... to be so weak I need others... I..."
'Enough, child.'
'Look.'
